Update
Hi friends of Neil.
As far as I know, Neil is being moved to the London Road Neurological Unit Care... Home today.
I'll update you once I know any more.
I believe he'll have his own room there and the reviews are good. It's also well placed for visiting when we're finally allowed to.
I spoke to him recently and he's keen to get out of hospital. His speech seems to be improving but not much else sadly. He's still being tube fed and still has almost no movement in his right arm and leg.

Update
Neil continues to make progress. He's still in the brain injury unit at the General. He's had his t...racheostomy out which has made his speech clearer and he's been able to drink fluid and eat some soft food . He has a tiny bit of movement in his right fingers and toes. He's seen the video messages sent to him via Dan and gets pleasure from looking at them. He's getting the best possible care and will hopefully continue on the long road to recovery.Read moreless

Update
Hi All,
Neil's awareness and understanding is improving. When asked how he was he said ok, asked... about his bedsores he responded better and asked have you been watching the olympics he responded a little bit.
The therapy team asked him what kind of exercise he wanted to do, sitting or standing he responded sitting. The team get him dressed and sit him on a blue wide couch, position him and assist his correct posture and stop supporting him so he holds himself unsupported for around 15 minutes. A physio on his right hand side moves his right hand, a therapist on his left side tells him to move his left foot and place on the ground, which he does. She asks him to reach up to hold her hand, which he does. Next she asked him to reach out his arm horizontally in front of him and I sitting across from him do the same until our fingertips meet.
A therapist informs us that yesterday they were asking Neil what instrument he played but he struggled to get the word bass out so emulated playing strings with his left hand.
It's tiring work for Neil, you visually see him fatigue in front of you but he has sat unsupported for 15 minutes and understood and complied with physical movement of his left side on instruction. Small but crucial steps on his journey.Read moreless

Update
HI ALL,
Neil is still in a similar situation to the last update.
He seems to recognise his visito...rs and has said 'Milan' and 'Dan' very quietly when he has the speech valve in his tracheostomy.
He's able to sit for short periods with help and has limited use of his left arm.
His bed sores are slowly healing.
He's now opening both eyes and follows basic instructions like 'look this way, Neil'.
All in all, progress is being made, albeit slowly.Read moreless

Hi All,
Some latest news:
Neil has made some big steps in his recovery although it's important... to realise that he has a long journey ahead of him.
He can now open both eyes. He has vocalised when a speaking valve is used in his tracheostomy and seems to be more aware of his surroundings.
He is still largely immobile although he is able to move his left arm and leg.
He had bed sores but these are healing.
He is getting good physiotherapy and speech therapy at the brain injury unit.
Visiting remains limited to a very small number of people.

Update
Hi All,
Some latest information:
Neil has been transferred to the Brain Injury unit at Leices...ter General Hospital. He has a multiple disciplinary team looking after him consisting of a Doctor, Nurse, Physiotherapist, speech and language therapist and Occupational Therapist. Neil's physical health remains stable although he currently has bedsores which limit the amount of time they are able to get Neil out of bed into a sitting position.
The team have reported that Neil is a lot more alert but fatigues quickly. His movement on his left side is coming back and he is able to follow instructions and will sometimes nod or shake his head in response to questions.
Neil is trying to communicate but as his facial muscles are weak and voice volume quiet he finds it difficult to verbalise and has told the team this is frustrating. He has elements of trunk control and is attempting to swallow his own saliva.
The team have stated that although it is still early days they are seeing some positive improvements and Neil has indicated to the team that he feels positive in himself.Read moreless

Hi All,
Here's the latest from Milan:
Things are much the same with Neil as per the last update....
He had a slight infection that knocked him back a bit but he's over that now. The plan is still to get him to the brain unit at The General when a bed becomes available. A prognosis is impossible but we know he's got a long road ahead of him. Thanks for all your concern, love and prayers.

Update
Neil is now on a ward at the LRI.
He's being well looked after and getting regular physio.
He's ...still very poorly but there are small signs of improvement. He can open his left eye and seems to respond to voices. The plan is to move him to the specialist brain unit at The General when a bed becomes available.

Update from Milan
... cautiously good news.
He's being moved to intensive care at the LRI, par...tly for access to his kidney team.
He's started to 'stir' occasionally and is largely breathing for himself with occasional oxygen.
Milan spoke to the top consultant who said he was making some progress, albeit small steps.

Hi All,
Here’s the latest on Neil from Milan:
He’s still in a coma but has responded to ‘pain...ful’ to stimuli.
He’s opened his eyes a couple of times – may be involuntary?
When asked about the scan that had revealed more damage to his brain, the nurse didn’t know the extent or significance of this.
He’s since had another scan which revealed he’s not having seizures.
He’s had the tracheostomy for 8 days now
They are trying to wean him off the ventilator; he’s had 2 lots of 6 hours without it and they are going to try him for 10 hours next.
His blood pressure is back under control.

Update
Hi All,
I know you are all very anxious to know about Neil. I spoke directly to Milan today and h...e’s told me about Neil’s progress.
He’s currently not in a induced coma and for want of a better word is ‘sleeping’. They have also taken him off the ventilator so he’s breathing for himself. The next part it would seem is down to Neil.
With Milan’s permission we have set up this page for Neil.
Please give this to anyone who cares for him.
I know this is a tough time for everyone but we are safe in the knowledge that this guy is a very well loved individual and I think it’s important we all keep sending our love.
I will keep you informed as and when we hear.
We are all here for him.
